The Artistic Journal: A Small Project

So just a couple of things for this week, the first one is that I had a little spare time to draw some fanart for a request.
Here’s Kog’Maw, from League of Legends:

I can safely say my drawing skills are improving, as I’m getting used to adding ink and colour. Part of my style is working pencils in layers, then enhancing the overall drawing/illustration with fineliner ink (as shown above). He’s a cute lil’ critter, if slightly evil and wanting to consume every living thing… But still!

Okay and onto my next little piece of news. I’m working on a project with my friend Adam by helping him write lore for his book which is called “The 11 Sages”, as well as work on illustrations and concept art. First order of business is to draw the map for the fantasy world map where his books are situated and I have some pictures here for you. Here gave me lore information and a crude design of what he wants the map to look like and so I’ve been getting to work.

Wish me luck, as I have a really great feeling about this project, since i’m having a tonne of fun working with Adam to help create his book. That’s all for this week, I shall see you next week 🙂

IW (Illustration Wednesday): Beginning

A new post to be made every wednesday with regard to Illustration work and me practicing my illustration skills. This will happen every wednesday and will contain either a traditional or digital drawing, or a photograph.

So since it’s the start of this new series of blog posts, I have made two: they illustrate my first few days in college and my thoughts.

The faceless person is the representation of a potential friend I could make. Given that there are around 50 people on my particular course, all of which seem friendly and cool, I shouldn’t have a problem getting to know a few. Although with me being a shy and timid person, that shall take some time.

Haikus: Bloodstock Festival 2012

Here’s another bunch of verses I wrote last weekend, enjoy!

The long journey there

Entertaining as it was

Fatigue was common

Blood sweat cheers and drink

The party started early

Lights danced around me

The music blasted

Pulsing with every note

It ran straight through me

My friends extend smiles

Making their jokes and laughing

Festival joy then

I wrote these after the Bloodstock Open Air festival weekend I went to last weekend and I had such an amazing time there, that I created these verses.

Art Compilation

I know you’ve missed these posts… No? Oh… Oh well, here is my latest bunch of artwork I have completed within these past few weeks. It’s a medley of fanart, illustration and just basic traditional work.

All of it was impulsive, since I was a tad bored most days and these were the ideas that popped into my head. Later on with these pieces, I realised my style of art is a moderately successful combination of pencil and ink markings together. Using pencil for initial sketches, then adding the detail, to then define specific details and add shadow/depth to the piece by inking… Still leaving the pencil traces, but just cleaning up a bit.

We have a hippie, ironman, spiderman, ibiza and some fanart here too:

The same goes with colouring: Light and dark shades with coloured pencils, then using coloured ink to define lines and add more depth in the shading. Some may say this is garish, but in my previous post with an artwork of Urgot fanart, I can see how effective it can be. I will still be sticking with only the “1-Colour” colour scheme and this will be the most prominent colour. The piece in red is League of Legends fanart of a character called Vladimir and his prominent colour is red to feature the colour of his armour, as well as the pool of blood he wallows in.
It is good to start out with nice, gentle strokes (something I still need work on, as I’m too hard-pressing) to gain an initial sketch JUST so you can let your mind flood with ideas of how you want the final piece to come out. In other words, when it comes to art, it’s best to think more like a “progressive thinker” if that makes sense… Someone who thinks of concepts step by step as they go along. Of course you don’t always need this mindset (looking at myself here, being impulsive), but it can help at times and I must admit that I do struggle with ideas occasionally and end up rubbing out ALOT.
I hope this satiates you guys for a while, as I shall be going to a music festival this weekend and I shall be inactive until next week. For now, I bid you all have a good day.
