I did some more that I wanted to show you, continuing to experiment with this simplistic and self-expressive style.
It’s self-expressive because it carries on with my impulse to record feelings and moments that I want to capture and the lining colour, as well as the extra details, is a reflection of that feeling. The muscle-man tells that muscles don’t compare to real, practical muscle and it’s comical of the typical “meathead” as they’re called around here. Another one to mention is the sleeping fella, whom resembles me and my consistent bouts of fatigue when I get up in the morning.
Like I said, it’s simplistic and self-expressive so although it’s cartoony and most often comical, it’s also personal :).
Just another couple of sketches to add to the collection: The Miner Mole and The Guide Goat. It’s a continuing development of The Animal Kingdom and the current progress is 12 out of 26, so I’m nearly halfway. It’s a long process, but it will reflect upon the time and effort spent to visualise this concept well. It’ll also show a development in my drawing skills since all those months ago that I started this.
Hope you enjoy the drawings and glad to have all you followers bear with me on this “journey” of sorts. See you tomorrow for the Haiku.
I had some time to flex my drawing skills in between college work and video games, so I draw another design/idea for the Animal Kingdom (as it says in the title). It’s quite befitting to give this to the beaver, since they do gnaw trees to help create their dams.
I kept it in pencil since I thought using ink would ruin the sketchy quality of it… Besides, I think it looks good as it is and for a quick sketch, it’s pretty detailed. Hopefully it’s accurate enough so you can see it resembles a beaver. I gave him a woodland-style hat and a hatchet, even though they use teeth naturally, but since I’m humanising and taking the concept literally that it’s befitting for this character.
Simple concept, the meerkat plays the role of the scout in my animal kingdom.
Being as one of the most naturally careful and alert species on the planet, they make the ideal scout for their abilities to spot danger and move/hide quickly.
I’m bucking up the drawings in terms of quality so I can get more detail in. Just so that they seem more “full” as a piece of concept art or whatever. I mentioned in a previous blog post about these initial sketches staying initial and just jotting down all the ideas and creating them first. Once that’s done, I can get to creating more complete illustrations.
