Illustrator Journal #16: Just playing around…

I made some small illustrations in a new style I’m trying out, dubbed “Wack!” There will be more to come, for sure, but I want to see what you guys think.

I like the style of bold linework with the glow of colour. It’s, well… Bold! 😀

It shows colour and attitude despite the minimal use of colours themselves and this method of illustration is good (for me) because I can do them quickly and anywhere I like, just need a fineliner and a few pencils.

I made an avatar picture!

Just a quick post to satisfy you all. I made this avatar picture for a friend on the Dark Souls video game forums. The idea was to create a chibi of a paladin with the Knight Solaire sun in the background. This all features from the video game “Dark Souls” by Konami.
Here:

Isn’t he cute? I think so. As small as it is, it needed to be for the specs of an avatar picture for the forums. It’s a mix of pencil, graphite and fineliner that adds 3 grades of tone and depth. Hope you like it, this is me, signing out.

Doodlesketchin’ #21 – Urgot fanart

Just a quick post this evening and it’s of League of Legends character, Urgot. The focus is still strongly on the shading, but I added his most prominent colour for some more personality.

Essentially, I started out with a rough sketch of a sphere for his head and when I made references to his splash art, the pieces started to fall into place. What I’m saying is that to me, the initial sketch looked bad, but as I started fleshing it out, adding the detail etc, that it really began to look good. So what I’m telling you all is to NOT be put off by how messy your rough sketch looks, as you will be able to fix that up when the finer details come in. Ultimately, just practice practice practice! 😀
